Bewley’s is set to open its doors… again!

Bewley’s on Grafton Street is a landmark spot in Dublin City and in our hearts.

Today it was announced that the popular cafe will open its doors again on the 27th of August and could possibly open earlier.

You may remember during lockdown Bewley’s was in the news because after it shut-down temporarily to COVID in March, they announced that they would have to close permanently which resulted in 110 people losing their jobs.

The staff who will back with the cafe are the original ones who lost their jobs a few months ago. So it’s good news for most!

The hot spot will open in August in phases, starting with takeaway coffee and baked goods. Sounds delicious.

In a statement today to RTÉ, Col Campbell of Bewley’s said: “We’re conscious of the role that Bewley’s plays in the hearts of visitors and Dubliners and we’re delighted once again to play our part in bringing Dublin’s city centre back to life.

“We’re thrilled that the team who made Bewley’s such a wonderful place, will once again bring the Bewley’s experience alive with customers, albeit on a phased basis initially.”

Initially they will open in phases and the busier it gets the more they will open, so if you’re in town and you want to support one of the statement landmarks in Dublin, head in for a coffee and show your support.

Landlords, Ronan Group Real Estate, also acknowledged how important the cafe is to the city, in a statement they said: “We are very mindful of the cultural importance of Bewley’s Café Grafton Street to the city of Dublin, its residents and tourists.”

“We hope that the temporary cessation of trade will have brought a renewed focus on the quality of the food offering, and we look forward to the café’s reopening.”
