Cookstown

Such a tragic story.

Three teenagers sadly lost their lives during a crush as they tried to enter a disco over the weekend.

They have been named as Morgan Barnard, 17-years-old, Lauren Bullock, 17-years-old and 16-year-old Connor Currie.

Large crowds were trying to push their way into a disco at the Greenvale Hotel in Cookstown, Tyrone, when the incident occurred.

The PSNI said “an extensive police investigation” has begun after the tragic incident at the Greenvale Hotel in Cookstown, Co Tyrone, at about 9.30pm on Sunday.

Today, books of condolence will open in memory of the teenagers.

The books of condolence will be opened this morning at The Burnavon arts centre in Cookstown, at Ranfurly House, Dungannon, and at The Bridewell centre in Magherafelt.

Councillor Sean McPeake, chairman of Mid Ulster District Council, said there had been an “outpouring of grief” in the local community, and that the books would help people express their sympathies with the victims’ families.

One teenager who witnessed the crush said:

“As I looked down I could see multiple bodies underneath me and as I looked up I could see multiple bodies on top of me,” she said.

“It was the most traumatic, frightening and stressful moment of my life.”

Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, and everyone involved in this horrible accident.
