Councillors in Poland have banned childhood classic (and Her.ie favourite) Winnie The Pooh, saying the bear is ‘inappropriately dressed’, ‘half-naked’ and of ‘dubious sexuality’.
The councillors, who were listening to suggestions for a new mascot for a local playground in Tuszyn, said the bear was a dangerous influence on children, and even described author AA Milne as ‘disturbing’.
In a local town meeting, minutes that were leaked to press included one councillor suggesting they opt for a Polish bear who was ‘more appropriate for children’ saying:
“… ours is dressed from head to toe, unlike Pooh who is only dressed from the waist up.'
The local government meeting went on to discuss the bear’s sexuality, with another official arguing:
“It doesn't wear underpants because it doesn't have a sex. It's a hermaphrodite.”
Councillor Hanna Jachimska had some unusual theories about author A.A Milne too:
“This is very disturbing but can you imagine! The author was over 60 and cut his [Pooh's] testicles off with a razor blade because he had a problem with his identity.”
Although they have yet to make a formal decision… we doubt Pooh is getting the prime spot.
It’s ok Pooh, we still love you.
