Crisis Averted! This Friday’s Planned Airport Strike Has Been Cancelled

Flights will continue as normal this weekend.

Good news for anyone planning to head on their holidays this week, as scheduled industrial action at Ireland’s four airports this Friday has been blocked by the High Court.

Proceedings had been brought by the Dublin Airport Authority and Ryanair against the strike, which would involve four-hour stoppages at Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports between 5am and 9am this Friday.

The SIPTU industrial action arises from a long-running dispute over cuts in pension benefits at Aer Lingus and the DAA and the Irish Times is reporting this evening that Justice Paul Gilligan has granted an injunction preventing the strike from going ahead.

The DAA and Ryanair had argued that the strike was not “a valid trade dispute” according to the 1990 Industrial Relations Act and any stoppage will “cause havoc” and “maximum disruption” on one of the busiest weekends of the year.
