A Dublin man has been jailed for life after raping and beating a woman in front of her young son, in the same night he attempted to rape another woman while she was lying in bed with her child.
Trevor Lawlor, who now lives in Manchester, broke into a house last July and threatened to slit a woman’s throat if she made a noise.
According to
ITV News, the 32-year-old removed his clothes, but was interrupted by his victim’s partner returning.
Lawlor then struggled with the partner at the scene, but made a getaway to a neighbouring house – whose owner had been told he was kidnapped to gain entry to the premises.
After gaining access to the house on the pretence of making a call to the police, Lawlor began repeatedly punching the woman in the head and face while her young son looked on.
It was only after the victim pretended to fall unconscious did he proceed to rape her while shouting at the son:
"This is all your mother is worth.
"This is what your f****** mother deserves."
Following her beating, the woman managed to escape her home and call out to a neighbour, who could only recognise the woman by her voice. The neighbour told the court that when she went to find the woman’s son, that the child was “blood-soaked and appeared to be traumatised and in a daze.”
Lawlor pleaded guilty to rape, attempted rape, assault by penetration, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence and making a threat to kill.
Lawlor has now been sentenced to a minimum of 10 years in prison - as part of a life sentence handed down by the UK courts.
