The family of Michaela McAreavey have revealed a breakthrough in the investigation into her murder as Mauritian authorities look at fresh evidence.
Michaela, daughter of Tyrone manager Mickey Harte, was killed while on honeymoon with her new husband John at the Legends Hotel in Mauritius on January 10th, 2011.
In a joint statement, the McAreavey and Harte families announced the developments earlier today:
“The McAreavey and Harte families have been recently informed about new developments in the investigation into Michaela’s murder.
“They will await further information on those developments before making any additional comment”.
Mauritian-based news outlet,
L’Express, published reports that 300 pieces of new evidence had been sent to a forensic laboratory in Bordeaux, France.
The country’s Director of Public Prosecutions, Satyajit Boolell, has said that four new suspects have been identified as a result of the forensic analysis.
Two workers at the Legends Hotel, which was renamed Lux following the murder of the 27-year-old schoolteacher, Sandip Moneea and Avinash Treebhoowoon, were acquitted in 2012.
