Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?

Fine Gael and Fianná Fail are believed to have made progress on the thorny issue of Irish Water.

According to RTÉ, Irish Water is likely to remain in place for the time being but it will be examined by an independent commission.

The findings of this will be presented to an Oireachtas committee who will make recommendations before putting the vote to the Dáil.

It is also likely that water charges will be suspended for nine months and this period could be extended down the line.

According to various reports, Fine Gael want to keep Irish Water in place while Fianná Fail wishes to banish it altogether.

It is though that water charges will be a topic of discussion in today’s Dail meeting with talks due to resume on the matter.
