The first baby of 2015 was born at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin just four seconds after midnight.
Kian Anthony Bourke, whose parents are from Artane, weighed 7lb 3oz and will be a little brother to seven-year-old Gemma.
Kian just pipped baby Ellie Dormer to the post, who was born weighing 7lb 14oz at 17 seconds past midnight in Holles Street.
According to RTÉ, a baby girl was born at 1.02am at Cork University Maternity Hospital weighing 8lb 4oz, while babies also arrived at 1.40am at the Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe and 1.43am at South Tipperary General.
