Five men have been arrested in connection with a gang rape that happened in December.
The men, who are aged between 17 and 20, were all arrested on Wednesday evening by detectives following an ongoing investigation.
It’s been reported that a 17-year-old woman was raped by five men in December. She was brought to a location in a vehicle by a man she knew and was raped by other men when she arrived.
According to The Herald, the girl was able to get free and seek help, before notifying the Gardaí.
An investigation was then launched and after Gardaí collected evidence and watched local CCTV they were able to make arrests and bring in suspects for questioning.
The men, one aged 17, two aged 19 and two 20-year-olds, were all questioned in different Garda stations in the midlands before being released.
The girl is said to be “deeply, deeply traumatised”.
A file is now being prepared by the Gardaí and will be brought in front of the DPP.
