A former employee at Fox TV has shot himself outside the front doors of the company’s Manhattan offices, after claiming his former employer had ended his career.
According to Police, Philip Perea, the 41-year old had been distributing fliers attacking his former employers who ‘Ended my career’, and linking to a series of YouTube videos.
The incident occurred before 9 am on Monday morning. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital Centre, where he was pronounced dead an hour later.
Having previously worked for a Fox tv station in Austin, Texas, it is believed he was fired from his position in June 2014.
Confirming the shooting this morning, Fox Television Stations CEO Jack Abernethy said in a statement:
‘This morning, a former employee at FOX 7-KTBC (Austin) committed suicide outside FOX Television Stations’ headquarters in New York City.
‘He was employed at our Austin television station for ten months and has not been with the station or FTS since June 2014. We are deeply saddened by this tragedy.’
According to the Wall Street Journal, a suicide note and a gun were recovered at the scene. Mr. Perea took to his Twitter page an hour before the shooting, linking to an 8-minute YouTube video laying out his complaints.
