Gardaí investigating alleged sexual assaults on teenage girls in Sligo

Katy Brennan

Gardaí have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Gardaí are currently investigating after two teenage girls were allegedly sexually assaulted in Sligo over the weekend.

The attacks are said to have happened between the hours of 8pm and 10pm on Saturday night. Two crime scenes, a house and a section of GAA grounds, have been sealed off as part of the investigation.

It is understood that the girls are 14 and 15 years of age and were attacked in two separate incidents. They had been out socialising when the alleged assaults took place.

Detectives believe the chief suspect may have left Sligo follwing the alleged attacks.

It is being investigated if they left the town in a taxi and may have been brought to Manorhamilton in Leitrim.

Gardaí have carried out forensic examinations of the scenes and searched through CCTV footage of the area.

They are now appealing for anyone who was in the Ballydoogan, Oakfield or Maugheraboy areas of Sligo between these times and witnessed “any activity which caught their attention, whether they think it may be relevant or not” to come forward.

Gardaí have also appealed to any drivers who travelled through the area, especially those who were recording dash cam footage.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Sligo Garda Station on 071 915700, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
