German Chancellor Angela Merkel First Female ‘Time Person Of The Year’ In 29 Years

The Prime Minister Of Germany Angela Merkel received a very high accolade from Time magazine as she won the coveted ‘Person Of The Year’ award for 2015.

According to Mashable:”… the magazine praised Merkel as a powerful leader who has held together the European Union in a year when it faced three major challenges: the Greek debt crisis, the refugee crisis and a new wave of terrorism.”

Merkel is the first woman to receive the Person of the Year award as an individual since Corazon Aquino, the first woman president of the Philippines, appeared on the cover in 1986.

The shortlist this year had included Vladimir Putin, Caitlyn Jenner, and the Black Lives Matter Movement among others.
