The Health Service Executive has today released two new videos to mark No Smoking Day, featuring campaigner Gerry Collins in the weeks leading up to his death.

The former Dublin footballer joined the campaign after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and given just months to live. However, the ads have now taken on an even more tragic significance following Gerry’s death on Monday at the age of 57.

In the touching clips, Gerry discusses how grateful he is for his family and how he’ll miss “not being around when they need me”, before appealing to smokers to break the habit that ended his life.

Wednesday 5 March is No Smoking Day. For information on the many reasons to quit the habit, click here or for tips on how to finally break the cycle, see here.
