They will be treated as an archaeological find.

Gardaí investigating the discovery of skeletal remains under the floorboards at a former pub in Cork have said that the bones are over 70 years old, RTÉ reports.

The remains were found at the former site of Nancy Spain’s pub on Barrack Street in Cork City. The site, which is currently being demolished to make space for a social housing scheme, was closed off earlier today.

The pub has been shut for the past 10 years.

Construction work on the site has been paused.

A statement from An Garda Síochána provided more information on the discovery,

It read: “Cork City Coroner was assisted by the Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster and all parties are satisfied that the bones are in excess of 70 years old.

“The remains will be dealt with as an archaeological find.”

The statement added that the case is no longer a matter for the gardaí.
