An Indian baby boy has been born with eight limbs – attracting thousands of worshippers looking to pray to him.
Officials believe the boy’s condition, where he has four arms and four legs, is a result of his twin being joined to him in the womb. The condition is also referred to as a parasitic twin.
Hospital staff said the news was met with thousands of Indians flocking to the village in Baruipur, east of the country, praying to the baby believing he is the Hindu God Brahma.
Speaking to a local TV station, a family relative said:
“When he first came out we couldn’t believe it. The nurses said he was badly deformed but I could see that this was a sign from God.
“In fact, this is a miracle, its God’s baby. Indian God’s have extra limbs just like this.”
A police spokesman said crowd control is becoming an issue in the village, saying:
“Hundreds are crying in the streets, hundreds of others are praying and setting up camp here. Some are even panicking and believe this is a sign of the end of the world.
“I have never seen anything like this in my whole career.”
The baby has now been dubbed ‘God Baby’ by his parents, who have yet to reveal a name for their child.
