A Co Westmeath software firm have warned Apple that they own the rights to the name iWatch.

Back in 2008, Probendi, based in Athlone, took out a Europe-wide trademark on the name ‘iWatch’ as they are planning to release their own smart watch.

Owner of the company, Italian Daniele Di Salvo told Bloomberg that they are now looking to Chinese manufacturers in order to get their own smart watch ticking.

Di Salvo has also warned that Apple and other companies may not use the term ‘iWatch’.

The Athlone-based company originally developed software as a means for devices to communicate with each other.  Now, they plan to release a smart watch under the name iWatch that will run on the Android operating system.

Apple are due to launch their Apple Watch early next year.
