An Irish man is reportedly in a critical condition following an incident that occurred in Sydney at 4pm Irish time on Friday.
According to reports, the 31-year-old is in a critical condition in hospital after he was allegedly punched at 3am (local time) in the King's Cross area of the city.
Reports state that the 31-year-old has had to undergo emergency surgery after suffering injuries when he was allegedly punched by his brother.
The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that both men were brothers and on holidays in New South Wales with their father.
Police were informed that a 33-year-old man had punched another man in the head which caused him to fall on to the footpath.
“This is a family tragedy,” said Superintendent Michael Fitzgerald, Commander of King Cross Police. “This has nothing to do with the lockout (laws) or early closing times.”
He added that alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
