Jack and Emily were Ireland’s favourite baby names in 2011, according to the Central Statistics Office.
Jack has topped the poll for the fifth year in a row but Emily took the top stop from Sophie as the year’s most popular girl’s name.
Over eight hundred and forty baby boys were named Jack in 2011 and five hundred and ninety six girls were named Emily.
Other popular boy’s names included James, Sean, Jack, Daniel and Connor while Sophie, Emma, Grace and Lily topped the female list.
There were a few new entries into the top one hundred names including Mason and Lexi. We think Mason has been inspired by little Mason Disick, son of Kourtney Kardashian. Is Lexi a sign that Irish moms are watching too much Grey’s Anatomy?
Whatever the reason, we're delighted that we have so many new babies in Ireland this year!
