Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has said that pubs will not be allowed to serve alcohol on Good Friday this year.
Speculation has grown in recent weeks that the traditional ban on the sale of alcohol could be lifted, following a series of meetings between vintner's associations and the Government.
However, Minister Fitzgerald has said that while she is considering a change to the law, any potential abolition would not come into effect until later in the year.
It has been argued that the ban is having a detrimental effect on tourism and will clash with a major European rugby fixture this year.
