Add us as a preferred source on Google »Fears are growing that the upcoming general election could interfere with Ireland's biggest annual TV event - The Late Late Toy Show.
Last month, Her.ie reported on the news that this year's Toy Show will not be airing in November as usual and will instead be moving to Friday, December 6th.
And though we predicted that some audience members would be disappointed at having to wait longer for the Late Late special, we suggested that pushing up the TV event closer to Christmas made a lot of sense.
That said, a general election may now clash with the Toy Show this year.
This week, the Government confirmed that a general election will be happening in 2024, with Taoiseach Simon Harris also stating that he would prefer to have it on a Friday.
According to recent reports, the likeliest dates are November 22nd or 29th, as well as December 6th - the same day as the Toy Show.
This is as a source is claimed to have told The Irish Independent that the latter date for a general election would be less than ideal because it would "coincide with the Late Late Toy Show".
And it seems the public would agree, with many taking to Twitter to either voice their frustration at the two events potentially clashing or express their bewilderment that the Toy Show could impact when an election is held.
You can read some of these reactions right here:
We live in a polity where a serious talking point about an election is whether the RTÉ Toy Show is going to be interrupted by democracy.

Just explained to a non Irish person that the date of the general election can be predicted based on the fact that they wouldn't dare hold an election on the same date as the broadcast of a thing called the Late Late Toy Show. pic.twitter.com/gvS9FUOdsK
