Georgia Tech’s Phi Kappa Tau fraternity actively encouraged members to attract ‘rape-bait’ and lure women to attack to their fraternity parties, according to two new lawsuits filed against the group.
The lawsuit outlines a ‘pro-rape’ mentality amongst brothers, including sexually explicit song lyrics, emails circulated to members encouraging a pro-rape message, and numerous documents obtained where rape activity was highlighted to members.
According to The Huffington Post, court documents claim the attitude and complaints against the fraternity went unchecked on campus , leading to at least two sexual assaults.
The PKT chapter at Georgia Tech first gained national coverage when an email from the fraternity’s social chair sent an email which encouraged brothers to bring ‘rape-bait’ to their parties. Amongst the instructions was a seven step guide to hooking up with these women, listing:
"Encounter, Engage, Escalate, Erection, Excavate, Ejaculate, Expunge.
"IF ANYTHING EVER FAILS, GO GET MORE ALCOHOL. I want to see everyone succeed at the next couple parties."
The lawsuit highlights a number of pro-rape literature in the chapter house, as well as an email invitation sent out to members reminding them of a candlelight vigil honoring sexual assault survivors taking place on campus.
The email included a note:
"If you have nothing to do tomorrow evening, here is a chance to find and meet former rape baits," before adding that brothers should invite the "rape baits" to one of the frat's upcoming blacklight parties.
Other instances of abusive language used by the fraternity was minutes recorded in a house meeting, which stated:
"Rape is good."
"[Fraternity member] is down for rape."
"Blacklight party this Friday! Watch out for rapebait."
The lawsuit included lyrics of a ‘traditional song’ for the fraternity, which graphically describe the rape and burning of a woman and her genitals, as well as a Christmas song which included the graphic lyrics:
“She died from sucking Phi Tau c*cks!
We dig her out every now and then.
She f*cked us once, she’ll f*ck us again”
Responding to the lawsuits, the fraternity accused the reported rape victims’ attorneys as “exploiting the hypersensitivity of today's college environment toward sexual assault" and "sensationalizes completely inappropriate statements."
