A two and a half year old child has been safely reunited with his parents, after wandering alone for a mile along one of Limerick’s busiest roads.

According to The Limerick Leader, the toddler climbed out of his cot and let himself out of his home before walking along the Dublin Road at 2.20am. The young boy was discovered by a 21-year-old man, who alerted the gardai and brought the child to safety. While local gardai attempted to ascertain the toddler’s identity, they noticed the open door at the house in the Garryowen area and alerted the parents, who were still asleep and unaware that anything has happened.

The child was unharmed and was united with his parents shortly after 4am.

“He was absolutely fine thankfully, nothing untoward happened, and his mother was delighted and relieved to be reunited with him,” said Chief Supt Dave Sheahan.
