Liz Smith MBE has passed away, a spokeswoman for her family confirmed on Monday evening. She was 95 years old.
The popular actress appeared in a number of television programmes including I Didn't Know You Cared, 2 point 4 Children, The Vicar of Dibley, and In Lark Rise to Candleford. But she will be most fondly remembered for her role as Norma Speakman - or 'Nana' - in the BBC comedy The Royle Family.
The very poignant 2006 'Queen of Sheba' episode aired this Christmas as a tribute to the late Caroline Aherne.
Smith was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2009.
