Man (40s) dies after getting into difficulty swimming in Co. Clare

He was removed from the water at around 9.30 pm.

A man in his 40s has sadly passed away after getting into difficulty swimming in Co. Clare.

The man was swimming at Fanore Beach yesterday evening.

Emergency services removed him from the water at around 9.30 pm on Tuesday, July 12th.

They rushed the man to University Hospital Galway, but unfortunately, it was too late.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital, despite doctors’ best efforts to save him.

Gardaí issued a statement following the man’s death.

“Gardaí were called by the Coastguard to attend the scene of an incident at approximately 9:30 pm on Tuesday, 12th July 2022 at Fanore Beach, Co. Clare.

“A male in his 40s got into difficulty while swimming and was removed from the water.

“He was taken to University Hospital Galway where he was pronounced deceased.”

The news comes after a 14-year-old boy died at Burrow Beach in Dublin earlier this week.

14-year-old Bradly Lulendo got into difficulty when he was swimming with friends on Monday evening.

He was transported to Beaumont hospital but was later pronounced dead at CHI Temple Street.

The teenager was from Richmond Road in Dublin.

Tributes have been pouring in for the young boy since news of his death emerged.

Locals said there is a sense of loss in the air.
