A 56-year-old man is due to appear in court today following an Ebola scare on an Aer Lingus flight at Dublin Airport yesterday afternoon.

An alert was raised shortly before 1pm yesterday on the Milan to Dublin flight when the passenger reportedly wrote on his cup “Attentione Ebola”.

The plane was subsequently put on lockdown as the gardaí and paramedics investigated the incident. The other 142 passengers and crew were kept on the plane while the claim was checked out.

The man was travelling with two female passengers and, after the incident was declared to be a hoax, all three were brought in for questioning.

The man will now appear in court this morning, while the two women have been released without charge.
