
A 29-year old male pedestrian has been killed in a crash in Co. Carlow.
The man was struck by a vehicle just outside Carlow town at Gorteengrone at roughly 7.20pm, and died at the scene.
His body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital, where a post mortem examination is to be arranged.
According to gardaí, the male driver of the car was uninjured in the collision.
Gardaí have closed the N78 Castledermot to Carlow road, and are preparing the scene for a forensic examination.
Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses to come forward with information – particulatly thoe who may have travelled the R448 Castledermot to Carlow Road, to contact Carlow garda station on 059-9136620 the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any garda station.
This was the second death on Irish roads on Christmas Day, following a collision on Cherry Orchard Avenue in Dublin between two motorcyclists.
A male teen was taken by ambulance to St.James’ Hospital, but was later pronounced dead. A second male, aged in his early 20s, was also taken to hospital.
His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
