Add us as a preferred source on Google »The elderly man who died after yesterday's bus crash has been named locally as Frank Daly.
Mr Daly was in his eighties and it has been reported that he was from the East Wall area of North Dublin.
Mr Daly died at the scene.
Another male, who was in his 20s, and a female, in her 30s, were struck in the incident and taken to hospital with serious, but non life-threatening, injuries.
The female bus driver has also been taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Gardai are said to be looking to speak to the bus driver once she is discharged from hospital.
They are keen to learn how the bus, which was supposed to turn left from Talbot Street onto Malborough Street, instead went forward in the pedestrianised zone.
A statement from the Gardai regarding the incident yesterday reads: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic incident involving a bus on North Earl Street, Dublin 1, today Thursday 5th February 2025 shortly after 12:30pm.
"One adult male was declared deceased at the scene.
"Three adults were conveyed to hospital for treatment of injuries of various severity.
"An Garda Síochána is not in a position to provide any further information on casualties at this early stage. Local traffic and pedestrian diversions are in place.
"Restrictions are in place around the scene which has been preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
"A Senior Investigative Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation from an incident room at Store Street Garda Station.
"An Garda Síochána requests that if anyone has photographs or video of the incident to not share them but to make them available to the Garda investigation team at Store Street Garda Station.
"Anyone with information about this incident who was in the area of North Earl Street between 12:15pm and 12:45pm can contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
