McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh introducing free self defense classes for women

'In light of a recent horrific attack in Dublin'

Olivia Hayes

A very sound move.

I’ll be honest and say that when I’m walking home at night I carry my key in my hand in case anyone tries to attack me. I know it won’t do anything, but having something there that even gives me a little bit of hope makes me feel safer.

The neighbourhood I live in, I have lived in all my life, but with more and more women being attacked, and more and more dreadful news popping up everyday, I still look over my shoulder and cross roads to make sure no one is following me.

I’m probably a little bit over-reacting… but to put it simply – I don’t feel so safe anymore.

That’s why I was pretty delighted to see a post by John Kavanagh doing the rounds today, where he offers free BJJ self-defense classes for women.

Highlighted by Chupi on Twitter, in the post he said: “Introducing a FREE women’s only BJJ self defense class starting this Saturday 11am.

“This will be ongoing and on at the same time every Saturday. Don’t worry if you miss this weekend, you can start anytime. Feel free to drop in and watch one if you’re considering taking it up.

“Also this class is free to any girls from any other clubs that want to supplement their training.

“In light of recent horrific attack in Dublin by a deranged individual we feel the need to do something to give women a fighting chance. Come down and meet Jacqueline and  see if you enjoy it.”

He also tagged Conor McGregor in the post. If you want to find out more info, you can email [email protected] for details.
