Another day, another (two) weather warnings.

Met Éireann have issued two status yellow weather warnings – including a countrywide snow-ice one – for this weekend.

A status yellow snow-ice caution was issued for the whole country, and is due to come into effect just after midnight.

It will last until 11:59pm on Sunday night.

It will see wintry showers give accumulations of up to 3cm of snow, with larger amounts on higher ground – especially in Ulster and Connacht.

Meanwhile, a yellow rainfall warning was issued for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

The weather warning was put into place at 6am on Saturday and will last until 11:59pm that night.

More showers this afternoon will give a total 24 hour rainfall accumulation for today of between 25 and 35 mm.

Saturday is forecast to be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and, although there will be drier intervals during the day, there will be a spell of persistent (and heavy) rain spreading from the west through the late afternoon and evening.

There will be fresh to strong, gusty west to northwest winds with temperatures of 9C to 12C degrees, the higher temperatures in the south of the country.

Met Éireann are forecasting a snowy start to Saturday night, as wintry showers move in from the west.

Wintry showers will follow from the west overnight, with the lowest temperatures of -2C to 1C and frost and icy patches developing.

Sunday will be very cold with sunny spells and wintry showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow with a risk of thunder.

The temperatures will reach highs of 1C to  4C, with moderate to fresh westerly winds.

Frost and icy patches will develop overnight, with  lowest temperatures of -3 to 0 degrees.
