Tributes paid to beloved dad-of-six killed in Westmeath bus crash

“He was a true gentleman”

Tributes have been pouring in for dad-of-six Michael Gill. The Longford bus driver sadly passed away in a crash on Wednesday, January 4th.

The beloved father has been remembered as “a brilliant character”.

55-year-old Michael Gill was described as the type of person who lit up a room.

One person shared, “A very special gentle soul. Michael, you will always be lovingly remembered around Kenagh and much further afield.”

Another shared, “A lovely man. I remember his big smile coming into the swimming pool dropping schools off for lessons.”

“He was a true gentleman,” another said.

Longford Fine Gael councillor Colm Murray told The Longford Leader;

“I knew Michael very well, he was at my parents’ wedding. He was a former treasurer of Keenagh GAA and won a number of Under 21 titles with the club back in the day.

“He was the type of character that would light up the place and he was very well known on the darts circuit, too”

Michael sadly passed away after the bus he was driving left the road between Athlone and Moate on Wednesday evening.

Michael was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore but he was sadly pronounced dead on Wednesday night.

There were 20 passengers on the bus at the time of the accident, but none of them suffered serious injuries.
