There will be no penalties for householders who failed to sign up to Irish Water before midnight last night.
The deadline had been set late last year, but as of 11pm last night there was still more than 40% of households that had not signed up.
According to reports today, there will be no penalties incurred for those who failed to sign up.
Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly stated that the deadline was not “a line in sand”.
It has been reported that as of midnight last night, almost 60% of households had signed up and will receive their first Irish Water bill in April.
Those who do not register between now and then will receive a default bill of €260.
