Yes, it's as ridiculous as it sounds.
A 27-year-old model, named Rachel Rickert, was representing the car company Hyundai during the International Auto Show in New York, greeting guests and providing them with information.
During this time she needed to go to the ladies room in order to change her tampon but was told she couldn’t take a toilet break for another three hours. As a result she bled through her clothing.
As if that wasn’t awful enough for her, the model was then told she had to go home because of her “period situation” even though she was more than happy to go and change her clothes.
Rickert claims she had to leave after her talent rep told her Hyundai wanted her to go home. Two days later, the model was told by her rep that she was being fired as Hyundai had heard about the incident.
Speaking to the
New York Post, Rickert said,
““I’m not going to let someone tell me I can’t have my period when I work. It’s unacceptable... They just act like we’re not human. I’m not going to be ashamed of having my period.”
The model also claimed she has not received any of the $5000 she was supposed to receive for the job. She has since filed a complaint against Hyundai and her former talent firm Experiential Talent.
