A new weather warning has been issued for 11 counties

Met Éireann forecasters have issued a new weather warning for 11 counties.

The status yellow caution comes into effect at noon today, June 9, and ends at 9pm tonight.

It covers Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary.

Forecasters warned that there are occasional severe thunderstorms expected to develop during the afternoon and evening.

Intense rainfall is also forecast in short time periods, with a risk of local spot flooding.

Meanwhile on Sunday, forecasters are saying there will be mist and fog at the start of the day  – before lifting to give a dry morning.

There will be some sunny spells, but it will be rather cloudy in many areas (especially in the western and northern counties.

Met Éireann forecasters say there will be scattered showers in the afternoon, a few of them heavy.

The highest temperatures will reach between 16C and 19C in western and northern areas, but as high as 20C to 22C in some of the east and south.

Looking towards the start of next week, forecasters said:

“[It will be] warm into the early days of next week, especially in the southern half of the country.

“There will be a good deal of dry weather, with some scattered showers – most of them on Sunday.

“Indications are that it will become cooler and changeable from midweek.”
