A newborn baby in the Australia has died after contracting the herpes disease from someone who had a cold sore.
Eloise Lampton was born healthy and brought home by her parents but after a week, she began to lose weight and become ill.
According to Mirror Online, the infant was hospitalised and ended up on life support as doctors tried to find out the source of her illness.
It was discovered that the baby was battling herpes but she subsequently developed a blood infection and died aged just 24 days.
Mother Sarah Pugh told the newspaper that she was "devastated" following the death of her fourth child.
"They thought it could have come from me, but I didn't test positive to the disease. It was passed on through a cold sore," she said.
"It could have been from anyone. Sometimes you don't even know you have a cold sore. You never know what's going to happen."
