We love our bikkies here at Her.ie, especially chocolate-covered ones, so we were extremely happy to see that one such snack has been voted Ireland’s number one biscuit.
The news was announced this morning by Tesco and, as we sat here dunking our own bikkies into our tea, we are all in agreement with the new findings.
The supermarket chain looked into biscuit sales over the past five months to see which biscuit topped the pile and Milk Chocolate Digestives claimed poll position, followed closely by Chocolate Chip Cookies in second and Oreo Vanilla Treats in third.
Good old Rich Tea came in fifth place, narrowly beaten by plain Digestives which claimed fourth spot. Others that made the top ten included Bourbon Creams, Ginger Nuts and Custard Creams.
“Biscuits and tea are a marriage made in heaven,” said Tesco Ireland’s Aisling Pearce. “With the wide range available, it’s interesting to see the traditional flavours topping the poll for Irish shoppers. Milk chocolate covered digestives took the biscuit with nearly 9 million milk chocolate covered digestives sold over the past five weeks.”
