Oscar Pistorius has arrived at a psychiatric hospital in South Africa to undergo a 30 day mental health evaluation.

The athlete, who is currently on trial for the murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013, was escorted by a police van to the hospital at 9am this morning and is expected to attend the clinic until 4pm daily as an outpatient.

Pistorius will be examined by a panel of three psychiatrists and one clinical psychologist, who will monitor his behaviour and present a report to the court next month.

The evaluation was requested by the prosecution team after an expert defence witness claimed that the 27-year-old suffers from a generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), which makes him hyper-vigilant.
