The family of seven were devastated after receiving two diagnoses within nine months.

A Yorkshire family are trying to keep hope alive for their young son after both parents were diagnosed with cancer. Sarah Thawley was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in May 2020, a mere two months after she gave birth to her fifth child Arthur. The family had to come to terms with another devastating blow in December when Sarah's husband Steve received a diagnosis for gastric cancer. Their son Arthur celebrated his first birthday last Saturday. Following her diagnosis, Sarah underwent chemotherapy. However, her condition worsened and doctors told her she had just weeks to live. The Metro reports, however, that Sarah's condition thankfully improved. Her CT scan showed that she had a "remarkable response" to her treatment. Unfortunately, Steve started having difficulty swallowing food. Doctors thought initially that his issues were anxiety-based but after an endoscopy, Steve was diagnosed with stage four gastric cancer. Steve will undergo chemotherapy until April. The couple's friends have organised a fundraiser for the family of seven. They hope that with the money, the family can "treat themselves in whichever way they choose". Additionally, Marina Whitwam, a family friend, has organised a half marathon to raise money for Sarah and Steve. She told Yorkshire Live: "You couldn’t write what has happened to them. Anything we can do to help them will be amazing." Tomorrow, 26 March is Daffodil Day in Ireland. Each year, people all around the country raise some much-needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
