Pensioner Stabbed After Interrupting Burglary In His Home

A pensioner is being treated in Cork University Hospital this evening after being stabbed during a burglary.

The 68-year-old returned to his home on the Cross Douglas Road at 4.30pm this evening to find that the property was being ransacked by a male intruder.

During an altercation, the pensioner sustained a head injury and a stab wound to his lower body and was taken to hospital, where his injuries are not said to be life threatening.

Gardaí have since launched an investigation into the attack.
