A cat that vanished three years ago during Japan’s 2011 tsunami has not only been found alive, but reunited with its owners.
The black feline, Suika, was thought to have died the day the earthquake and tsunami hit his home city after he disappeared from his home in Ofunato, Iwate prefecture.
Despite three months of ongoing searches, his owners Kazuko and Takeo Yamagishi never found their family pet.
Three years later, in a rare twist, the cat was spotted in a neighbouring town when authorities took him in. Tracking down the owners through the cat’s collar information, police were able to bring Suika back to his owners.
Although the owners and authorities are unable to track Suika’s whereabouts over the last three years, they seemed pretty excited to see their furry friend when reunited at Ofunato Health Centre.
