There are said to be no survivors.

A plane carrying 189 passengers has crashed off the coast of Indonesia.

The plane took off from the capital, Jakarta, and sank shortly after take-off.

A rescue official has estimated that there would be no survivors from the crash.

“We need to find the main wreckage,” Bambang Suryo, operational director of the agency, told reporters.

“I predict there are no survivors, based on body parts found so far.”

Indonesia’s search and rescue lost contact with ground officials 13 minutes after the plane took off, and a tug boat leaving a port saw it fall.

“We are there already, our vessels, our helicopter is hovering above the waters, to assist,” Mr Syaugi said.

“We are trying to dive down to find the wreck.”

Apparently, there were a number of Indonesian government official on board the aircraft.

The CEO of the airline spoke with Reuters, and explained the fact that the plane was brand new.

“We don’t dare to say what the facts are, or are not, yet.”

“We are also confused about the why, since it was a new plane.”

Our thoughts are with everyone involved at this horrific time.
