Pope Francis has already been a more popular Pope than some of his counterparts, with a more relaxed attitude to gay relationships and divorcees, and the latest reports confirm that he now plans to build showers for the homeless in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican City.
The news was released by Religion News Services, with reports indicating that the showers will be built into some refurbished restrooms in the square.
Construction is set to begin next week, with the showers planning to be added to renovated public restrooms located near the marble columns that led into the basilica, which date back to 1626.
Although the plans have been largely praised, there has been some backlash, with people fearful the move will attract a large homeless population to the city.
