Has the population in your county gone up our down since 2011?

Ireland is certainly getting a little crowded as a whole, as Census 2016 results released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Thursday revealed that Ireland’s population has increased by 3.8% (173,613) in the last five years.

Part I of the summary results from the 2016 Census also revealed that the total number of non-Irish nationals fell slightly to 535,475 (11.6% of the population), the first decline since the introduction of this question in 2002.

The number of people with dual-Irish nationality, meanwhile, has increased by 48,879 to 104,784 since April 2011.

As well as detailing the overall change in the population since April 2011, Part I provides summary results on age profile, marital status, families, nationality, Irish language, foreign languages, religion and housing.

The results all can be viewed in the full report on the CSO website, which also offers interactive web tables which allow users to search and download the data using a range of criteria including geographic area.

Only Mayo and Donegal showed a decline in population in that period, with the steepest increases evident in Dublin and the surrounding counties and Cork.
