R Kelly has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking, sexual abuse, and racketeering charges.

The singer is accused of asking women and girls backstage after his concerts and recruiting them into having illegal sexual activity.

He is also alleged to have separated the women and girls from their friends and family and exploiting them.

ABC News reports that Kelly’s defence in New York have dismissed the charges as “groupie remorse” and requested his release.

The 52-year-old’s bail was denied as prosecutors told Magistrate Judge Steven Tiscione that the singer was a danger to public safety.

They also argued that he posed a flight risk.

Kelly is accused of exploiting five alleged victims, known as Jane Does. He was arrested in July of this year and has remained in jail without bond since.

The RnB singer is also facing 10 charges of aggravated sexual abuse in Illinois.

According to NPR, if convicted in New York, he faces up to 80 years in prison.
