You might want to stay indoors tonight.

A rainfall warning has been issued for five counties in Ireland and it will stay in place until 3pm tomorrow.

Met Éireann says that there will be “thundery” downpours throughout the night, with the Status Yellow warning in place for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford.

It came into action at 3pm today, so you might want to be careful making your way home.

The weather forecaster said: “Further spells of heavy rain expected with a continued risk of thundery downpours and flooding.”

Met Éireann continues: “Persistent and occasionally heavy rain will move in across the eastern half of the country overnight, with the risk of thundery downpours and spot flooding.

“Staying mostly dry across the western areas, with slight frost and fog patches locally. Lowest temperatures 1 to 5 degrees. Moderate northeast winds.”
