WATCH: Men reading mean tweets to female sportswriters is a tough watch

The comments are revolting...

Women in sport are constantly subjected to criticism.

There are continuous reports of sexism against women working in sport – whether it be athletes, referees, players writers, TV presenters or reporters. It’s absolutely disgraceful.

Which is why the latest video released by the website Just Not Sports is a harrowing watch. Released with a new hashtag #MorethanMean, the campaign was founded in a bid to stamp out the online harassment of women in sports.

It plans to open men’s eyes to sexism, by having real men repeat the harsh comments many sports fans make online.

In the clip, male sports fans read statements out loud to two female sports journalists, Sarah Spain and Julie DiCaro.

Some of the disturbing comments in the video make it hard for the readers to articulate to the women seated right in front of them, with some men even tearing up and horrified at the dark thoughts many sports fans published online.

Fans online expressed their emotions and support for Spain and DiCaro:

I hope these vapid online trolls get what they deserve.
