Rescuers in Spain have found the body of a two-year-old boy who fell down a 330ft well almost two weeks ago.

On January 13, the boy – named locally as Julen – had been having lunch with his parents on January 13 when he fell down the narrow shaft in Totalán, near Málaga.

Firefighters and rescue workers began working around-the-clock to try and reach the little boy. The borehole was too narrow for an adult to enter, according to AP

The Guardian report that in the early hours of Saturday morning, local authorities confirmed that the rescue teams had reached the area where Julen was believed to be.

A government spokesperson in Málaga said in a statement:

“At 1:25 a.m., the rescue teams reached the area of the well where they were looking for Julen and they found the lifeless body of the little one.”

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that Spain joins the “infinite sadness” of Julen’s family as he sent his “support and love” to the little boy’s family.

He added on Twitter:

“We have closely followed each step to get to him.

“We will always appreciate the tireless effort of those who searched for him during all these days. My support and love to his parents and loved ones.”
