Infant boy killed in tragic road accident in Roscommon

Devastating news this afternoon.

An infant boy has tragically died in a road traffic accident in Roscommon.

The incident happened near Ballinagare in Co.Roscommon this morning, Friday, August 19th.

According to Gardaí, a jeep collided with the male infant shortly after 9 am this morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the accident, but it was too late to save the young boy.

The young boy received treatment at the scene but was later pronounced dead.

He has not yet been named.

His body was then taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway. A post-mortem is due to take place.

No one else was injured in the tragic accident.

Roscommon

A technical examination of the scene by Forensic Collision Investigators has since been completed.

A family liaison officer has also been appointed to support the family during this unthinkable time.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Any road users with video footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to them immediately.
