The documents claim that the actor "grabbed Hewitt's upper arm so tightly that his grip left heavy bruises on her arm hours later." When the 21-year-old tried to get to her feet, she claims she went back up the stairs to get her things - and alleges that the actor then "struck her, cornered her, kicked her and aggressively pushed her to the ground". Hewitt was later admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment.
Phillipe's representative maintained in a statement to People that the claims were false. It read:
“As a staunch advocate for the health, well-being and equality of women, Ryan is completely devastated that these false allegations have been made and circulated. “Domestic violence is an incredibly serious issue and fabricated and proven false claims should not be used to unjustly slander the falsely accused. "The claims are false.”Hewitt's lawyer Keith Fink denied any suggestion that she had filed the suit for fame - telling People that she wanted to take a stand against domestic violence. He added:
“She’s not going to take a dime, I am not making a dime, [if she wins the case] the money is going to a domestic violence charity”.
