Ryan Phillippe has been accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt.

The incident is alleged to have happened in the early hours of July 4th.

According to People, the model filed a $1 million civil suit against the actor, claiming he got violent after they had a fight this summer.

Documents obtained by the publication allege that the actor left a party after “being ignored [by Hewitt]”.

Hewitt alleges she went to the actor’s house to get her belongings in the early hours of July 4th, where the incident is said to have happened.

The model alleges the actor kicked, punched and threw her down the stairs. She claims that she suffered chest wall pain, severe bruising and abrasions in the alleged incident.

The documents claim that the actor “grabbed Hewitt’s upper arm so tightly that his grip left heavy bruises on her arm hours later.”

When the 21-year-old tried to get to her feet, she claims she went back up the stairs to get her things – and alleges that the actor then “struck her, cornered her, kicked her and aggressively pushed her to the ground”.

Hewitt was later admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment.

Phillipe’s representative maintained in a statement to People that the claims were false.

It read:

“As a staunch advocate for the health, well-being and equality of women, Ryan is completely devastated that these false allegations have been made and circulated.

“Domestic violence is an incredibly serious issue and fabricated and proven false claims should not be used to unjustly slander the falsely accused.

“The claims are false.”

Hewitt’s lawyer Keith Fink denied any suggestion that she had filed the suit for fame – telling People that she wanted to take a stand against domestic violence.

He added:

“She’s not going to take a dime, I am not making a dime, [if she wins the case] the money is going to a domestic violence charity”.
