A single mother is staging a sit-in at City Hall in Limerick this evening in a desperate attempt to save her family from homelessness.

Grace Healy is a mother of five and said that while she can afford to pay the €675 rent on the property with the help of the Rent Allowance Scheme, she is currently facing eviction from her home as it has fallen into receivership.

According to Breaking News, the worried mother said that she had contacted Limerick City Council in order to find a new home for her family but was told that she was “not a priority” as she had not previously been on the waiting list.

She is now staging at sit-in at the housing section of Limerick City Council and has vowed to stay until she receives some assistance.

“I have no intention of leaving here until I get an answer on when I can get a house for my children. I’m on my own and looking after five kids,” she said.

“I was told by the Council to bring the kids to a local hostel, but I don’t want to have my kids living in a hostel. They deserve a home where we can all be together.”

Limerick City Council has said that it is “happy to engage” with anyone who is at risk of homelessness.
