A Status Orange wind warning has been issued for the four counties, while a Status Yellow wind warning has been issued for the rest of the country.

Of the Orange warning, Met Éireann said: “As storm Gareth approaches, westerly winds will reach mean speeds of 65 to 75km/h with damaging gusts reaching 110 to 130km/h. There is also the risk of coastal flooding due to high seas.”

This warning will be in place from Tuesday 12 March 2019 12:00 to Wednesday 13 March 2019 09:00.

Of the Yellow warning, the weather forecaster said: “Westerly winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h and gusts of 90 to 110km. There is a risk of coastal flooding due to high seas along Atlantic coasts.”

This will be in place from Tuesday 12 March 2019 12:00 to Wednesday 13 March 2019 12:00.

Meanwhile, there is also a rain warning for Connacht, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.

This is in place from Monday 11 March 2019 18:00 to Tuesday 12 March 2019 06:00.
